Fishing in-shore today the Mirse Azul was on the hunt for Roosterfish. Mar1 Sport fishing clients today were from Australia and they fished the Offshore World Championship that was here this week in Quepos, Costa Rica and now they wanted a Roosterfish.
Quepos and all of Costa Rica is different from most other places in the world and when you spend any length of time here you see some real wild and crazy things, however today definitely takes first prize of the weirdest thing I've seen on a Fishing Charter boat here in Quepos.
Fishing as we do here we meet a lot of nice people and these two seemed really cool as they got onboard the Mirse Azul, fishing team shirts on and off they go, seemed normal right. Well sports fans let me tell you the return was not anything anyone would have expected when I looked down into the boat there was only Captain Luis, one client and..... is that Batman aboard the Mirse Azul... Yes it was.
Can you believe that these guys brought a Batman costume from Australia with them?? They claim that Batman has been on just about every Zip line in the southern hemisphere as well as other tours but this was the first time fishing with them. Wow you should have seen the people at the dock when he came off the boat. The funniest part was the look on the Guards face at the Parador when we dropped them off.
Fishing Report for these guys was also good 2 Roosterfish were released on the half day of in-shore fishing so we managed to get the target species for them as well, great group hope to see them in Quepos, Costa Rica again.

Quepos Fishing Report April 13 2013
Fishing Quepos two days before the start of the IFGA Offshore World Championship here is Quepos, Costa Rica Mar1 Sportfishing having two teams pre fishing with us today on the Blue Pearl 2 and the Fastrak, teams were trying to get their technique down to set the hook on the Sailfish when they come to the bait so let's see how they did.
Fishing the Fastrak these guys were a lot of fun yesterday and to say that the girls were going to keep Rudy (first mate) on his toes was a gross understatement as these ones were fiery. The Fishing report for the day was 6 Sailfish releases, out of 18 bites so the fishing was good for the Fastrak today.
Fishing the Blue Pearl 2 the team that was on the Wild Lady yesterday was on the Blue Pearl 2 today looking for a better fishing than yesterday. Fishing was better for them today releasing 4 Sailfish of the 9 bites but they were more confident at the end of the day that they would be at the top of the leader board at the end of the IFGA Offshore World Championship.
Marina Pez Vela here in Quepos has been really busy with all of the event staff getting ready and the sudden rise in boats in the marina has them running. The staff at the Marina Pez Vela are already overwhelmed and only a third of the boats and people are in the marina. It's going to be neat to see how they do when all 70 boats and teams need to get ready to go fish Monday morning. Let's hope they can pull all of this off, it looks like some things that were supposed to be ready are still not quite done, but over all things are coming at the Marina Pez Vela but are they ready for the onslaught of people ready to fish Quepos Monday March 15 2013 day one of the 2013 IFGA Offshore World Championships.

Quepos Fishing Report March 30 2013
Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sportfishing couple of groups out fishing offshore, the Rayo De Sol and the Fastrak was going offshore for the morning and then a half-day In-shore with another group.
Rayo De Sol was on it as client reports a great fishing charter going 7 for 10 on Sailfish, what a different charter than yesterday was with a good steady bite. Fastrak ended with 2 for 2 on Sailfish as well on their half-day of offshore fishing and then headed back to switch baits and clients.
In-shore was good this morning with a strong bite and then just died, the boats In-shore fishing this morning good Snook bite as well as the Roosterfish was a good bite as well but this afternoon the fish tired and sleepy from the morning I guess. We managed to release a Roosterfish and a Snapper on the afternoon half-day In-shore on the Fastrak.
Quepos Fishing Report March 29 2013
Fishing Quepos there only a few boats headed out and they hoping for a good fishing, however the bite was not good and a few of the boats headed back with goose eggs. Let's hope the bite gets better for the IFGA Offshore World Championship coming in April.
Quepos Fishing Report March 28 2013
Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having clients fishing the Fastrak offshore as well as the Ray De Sol for a half-day In-shore fishing. Today was one of those charters where I'm not sure who's fishing report to post first because they both amazing, however the quadruple hook up takes the cake.
Fishing on the Fastrak Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos Father and his three sons and whenever there are children on the boat Mar1 Sportfishing hopes for lots of action to keep them busy, and when they do get that fish to the boat that's bigger than them you can't help but smile because they sure are.
Fastrak Fishing Report was went 7 for 14 on Sailfish including a Quadruple hook that they released 3 of the 4 all three by the boys!!! as well as 3 for 4 Dorado that they took for dinner. What an amazing Charter a day fishing that won't be forgotten soon I am sure by that family.
Rayo De Sol fishing report for Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos late departure as the client was flying in from San Jose on the first Sansa flight this morning so Mar1 Sportfishing got him from the airport in Quepos and took him right to the Rayo De Sol that was waiting bait ready and ready to fish..
Fishing reports for In-shore lately have been great but this client was lucky enough to catch 7 Snook, and 3 Snapper in a half-day In-shore trip on the Rayo De Sol... One man 10 fish I wonder if he having time to stop for a drink... What a Charter In-shore fishing here in Quepos.

Fishing out of Quepos on the Fastrak Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos group headed offshore for a full-day and the Rayo De Sol on a three quarter day charter offshore as well. The fishing report from the Fastrak was 5 for 9 on Sailfish, it was a tough Charter offshore but the crew of the Fastrak was able to turn it into a great day on the Water.
The Rayo De Sol was also having a tough Charter offshore but did manage to hook 5 Sailfish but clients only managed to release 1 of them.
Quepos Fishing Report March 26 2013
Fishing Quepos for Charter two of their fishing holiday here in Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing clients fishing the Fastrak for a day of In-shore fishing. It's been awhile since Mar1 Sportfishing having the Fastrak In-shore so it was going to be interesting to see if the crew could remember how to fish In-shore.. Well Mar1 Sport fishing clients did and client reports another great Charter of fishing Quepos on the Fastrak releasing two Roosterfish, as well as some Snapper, Jack Crevalle and needlefish. Rayo De Sol was out of a half-day offshore and the bite just wasn't there this morning as Mar1 Sport fishing clients managed to release 0 of 3 Sailfish that hooked up. The afternoon bite was better but missed it, this is sometimes why Mar1 Sportfishing doesn't recommend half-days offshore unless the bite is really hot.
Los Sueños fishing reports for good for a long distance trip and the total was 40 for 58 but traveled an undisclosed crazy amount of water.
Golfito Fishing report in for having them also heading way out going 50 for 65 on Sailfish, what crazy numbers on the long distance charters.
Quepos Fishing Report March 25 2013
Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Fastrak headed offshore with a nice family of 5 and Mar1 Sportfishing wanted them all to get at least one, or two. At the end of the Charter the Fastrak ended with what Mar1 Sportfishing wanted going 5 for 8 sails 0 for 1 Marlin. There's that Marlin again the trend continues... Other reports from Quepos 2 for 3 on Sailfish.
Los Sueños fishing reports from a little slower than yesterday but still very good at 7 for 10 Sailfish released. One crew back after a three Charter fishing excursion went a three day total of 94 for 127 on Sailfish.... Now that's fishing!
Quepos Fishing Report March 24 2013
Fishing Quepos offshore the bite was about the same as yesterday not realy good but not real bad either as most boats releasing 3-5 Sailfish for the Charter. Quepos Fishing Report March 22 2013

Quepos Fishing Report March 21 2013
Fishing Quepos for their last Charter this trip for this crew, and what a ton of fishing Mar1 Sport fishing clients did over their two week holiday here in Quepos / Manuel Antonio Costa Rica. They started off with a full-day of In-shore fishing on the Mirse Azul the day after arrival, then Mar1 Sport fishing clients followed that with the next two days of Offshore fishing on the Swordfish. Now if the three days weren't enough Mar1 Sport fishing clients rented one of the Tres Niñas boats for a week and fished everyday of it. And now after a few days off the whole family was onboard the Fastrak to send them off with a fantastic Charter of offshore fishing.
Fishing was full of action raising almost thirty Sailfish throughout the Charter, of that the crew managed to hook 8 Sailfish and Mar1 Sportfishing released 6 Sailfish out of the 8. I think that the highlight of the Charter though was Rudy and Harold getting a chance to swim with a beautiful Sailfish taking turns releasing it. As a matter of fact the fish was having so much fun swimming with the crew of the Fastrak it didn't seem like it was going to leave the boat. Another fantastic day of fishing on the Fastrak here in Quepos, Costa Rica.
Quepos Fishing Report March 20 2013
Fishing Quepos In-shore Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Rayo de Sol looking for some In-shore species like Roosterfish, Snook, Snapper, Spanish Mackerel etc. What a great Charter client reports releasing 2 Roosterfish and a nice Snook on a half-day of In-shore fishing.
Quepos Fishing Report March 19 2013
Fishing Quepos Offshore again Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Fastrak out looking for a day fishing like yesterday with a lot of action in the spread and double digit releases on Sailfish. Today however was a different Charter, there was still lots of Sailfish in the area butthe fish just weren't as interested as yesterday. The crew of the Fastrak having to work hard to get the hook ups and managed to get 8 on and the clients able to release 5 of the Sailfish that hooked for them.
Quepos Fishing Report March 18 2013
Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Fastrak and the Rayo de Sol heading offshore to look for some Sailfish, Marlin and Dorado. What a day of fishing both of them having, both great deal of action in the spread as the fish keeping the crews busy.
Fastrak ended the top boat for the day as Mar1 Sport fishing clients managed to release 10 of the 21 Sailfish that hooked on and seem probably 40 Sailfish in the spread throughout the day of fishing.
Rayo de Sol ended with a few less Sailfish in the spread but still managed to release 7 of the 12 Sailfish that hooked on and saw 25+ Sailfish in the spread. Looks like the bite is back as Fishing Quepos heats up again.
Quepos Fishing Report March 17 2013
Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos couple boats fishing for us again the Fastrak and the Rayo de Sol, the Fastrak was headed offshore with some friends from home and the Rayo De Sol was In-shore fishing with the group that fished on the Big Eye yesterday.
Offshore fishing Quepos on the Fastrak with the bite looking great from yesterday Mar1 Sportfishing expecting nothing short of an amazing Charter for these two as Mar1 Sport fishing clients headed offshore to get some Sailfish and maybe a Marlin and a couple of Dorado for dinner. The fishing report at the end of the Charter was 5 for 8 on Sailfish, with some great pictures above as well as below the water line of some of these amazing fish.
In-shore fishing on Charter two of their fishing holiday the boys one light this morning as only two of the three up and ready to get fishing when I picked them up. The two that made it ready for a great day of fishing in the hands of the very experienced crew of the Rayo De Sol Mar1 Sport fishing clients off looking for Roosterfish, Snook and maybe a couple Snapper.
The fishing report from them at the end of the Charter was a little weird though, and I was getting a totally different feel of the day from everyone. They managed to release 3 Roosterfish, 2 Snook one in the 40 pound class, as well as 4 Catfish and a pile of Needlefish. In my opinion this was a really good day of fishing and I wasn't sure why there was some negative vibes as Mar1 Sportfishing left the marina.
Fishing is fishing not catching, and when I got to the bottom of the issue with the Charter it basically came down to species. They caught a pile of fish but from the sounds of it Mar1 Sport fishing clients very unimpressed when clients caught a fish that was not the species that the clients looking for. I am sure I can speak for everyone that has ever fished before that it would be great if you could use baits that would only catch certain species, and only that species of fish. But unfortunately nothing like this exists yet here in Quepos so when you feel a fish on you are really never quite certain what it may be until you get a look at the fish, sometimes it's not the species you are looking for and that's why you try again for that target species and that's all part of the great sport of fishing.
PS if anyone has a bait that will only catch a specific species and that species only please send us a few so Mar1 Sportfishing can try them out.
Quepos Fishing Report March 16 2013

First off to look for some Sailfish where the clients having luck the last time here and didn't have the same luck, Mar1 Sport fishing clients raised 5 Sailfish but the fish just weren't hungry. So then off to try some bottom fishing where the clients having luck last time and again well... Mar1 Sport fishing clients did manage to get 1 Snapper at the end of the Charter just as the sun was setting so Mar1 Sport fishing clients didn't get totally skunked.
Fishing Quepos changes from day to day and charter to charter our local crews fish and keep the action there for you, so you can trust that the crews will do the job. Today was one of those days where sometimes the fish aren't where the last time you here so let the Captain look after you, sit back and enjoy the fishing.

Fishing Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos few boats out that Mar1 Sportfishing have fishing reports from, the Mirse Azul was In-shore for a Full-day, the Swordfish was offshore and the Fastrak was headed off shore out of Los Sueños.
First off the clients on the Mirse Azul on Charter 2 of their three Charter fishing holiday the plan for was In-shore for Snapper and Roosterfish. Unfortunately the swell was a little big to get after the Snook but Mar1 Sport fishing clients did manage to get 4 nice Roosterfish, also a bunch of Jack Crevalle and Spanish Mackerel. So this was two of four on the clients target species, Sailfish, Marlin, Roosterfish and Snook, now Mar1 Sportfishing need a Marlin and some Snook and Mar1 Sportfishing got the job done for him.
Fishing offshore on the Swordfish client reports a steady Charter releasing 6 Sailfish with lots in the spread, just weren't taking the baits. This concerned me a little and knew the crew was going to have to work for this client, he having the right boat and crew to get him his first "big fish". Well at the end of the Charter my fears came true and Mar1 Sport fishing clients managed to get 1 Dorado, a very nice Dorado in the 60 pound range but went 0 for 3 on Sailfish... The first Charter this season that the Fastrak has been unable to get a Sailfish boat side. So the clients mission continues for a "big fish" and Mar1 Sportfishing wish him luck.

One group from Calgary on the Fastrak, one from Edmonton on the Release and the other from Central Alberta on the Bill Chaser now what are the chances of that ever happening again. For those unfamiliar with this, these two cities are in our home Province in Canada and carry a good heated rivalry between them so the fight was on for bragging rights.

Mar1 Sport Fishing Travel tips for going on a fishing trip
If you are going on a fishing trip along with friends or through an organized tour in Costa Rica, it is very important to follow certain fishing tips. Below mentioned are the important fishing tips that will be quite handy to you to help plan your next Costa Rica Fishing Holiday.
Search – Before going to fishing in a particular area, it is very important to search regarding the area on the internet. You should not completely rely on the marketing material that is provided by the fishing tour company. Try to extract the recent information about that particular area and see whether it is the best time to go in there or not.
Cost – Some of the best fishing operation always get repeat business from a great reputation and their ability to catch fish. Sometimes there are cases where the fishing Charters charge more to the new clients as it becomes a supply and demand issue. It is advisable to be alert and not let them overcharge you. If you are going for fishing with friends then you should hire boat wisely. Refrain from hiring large boat for small group of people and ask questions as to what size of charter boat is required for your group of fishermen.
Weather – After selecting your fishing area make sure you do adequate research on weather of that area. You don’t want to be blown by a hurricane or get drenched in torrential rains while fishing. So, proper research of the weather is very vital for good fishing. Fortunately we don't have this problem in the Quepos, Costa Rica area, however the Guanacaste Area does get windy certain times of the year.
