Quepos and all of Costa Rica is different from most other places in the world and when you spend any length of time you see some real wild and crazy things, however today definitely takes first prize of the weirdest thing I've seen on a Fishing Charter boat in Quepos.

Fishing as Mar1 do we meet a lot of nice people and these two seemed really cool as they got onboard the Mirse Azul, fishing team shirts on and off they go, seemed normal right. Well sports fans let me tell you the return was not anything anyone would have expected when I looked down into the boat there was only Captain Luis, one client and..... is that Batman aboard the Mirse Azul... Yes it was.

Can you believe that these guys brought a Batman costume from Australia with them?? Clients claim that Batman has been on just about every Zip line in the southern hemisphere as well as other tours but this was the first time fishing with them. Wow you should have seen the people at the dock when he came off the boat. The funniest part was the look on the Guards face at the Parador when we dropped them off.

Fishing Report for these guys was also good 2 Rosterfish released on the half-day of in-shore fishing so we managed to get the target species for them as well, great group hope to see them in Quepos, Costa Rica again.

Fishing Quepos two days before the start of the IFGA Offshore World Championship here is Quepos, Costa Rica Mar1 Sportfishing having two teams pre fishing with us on the Blue Pearl 2 and the Fastrak, teams trying to get their technique down to set the hook on the Sailfish when the fish come to the bait so let's see how fishermen did.

Fishing the Fastrak these guys were a lot of fun yesterday and to say that the girls going to keep Rudy (first mate) on his toes was a gross understatement as these ones were fiery. The Fishing report for the charter was 6 Sailfish releases, out of 18 bites so the fishing was good for the Fastrak today.

Fishing the Blue Pearl 2 the team that was on the Wild Lady yesterday was on the Blue Pearl 2 looking for a better fishing than yesterday. Fishing was better for them releasing 4 Sailfish of the 9 bites but were more confident at the end of the charter that would be at the top of the leader board at the end of the IFGA Offshore World Championship.

Marina Pez Vela here in Quepos has been really busy with all of the event staff getting ready and the sudden rise in boats in the marina has them running. The staff at the Marina Pez Vela are already overwhelmed and only a third of the boats and people are in the marina. It's going to be neat to see how contestants do when all 70 boats and teams need to get ready to go fish Monday morning. Let's hope they can pull all of this off, it looks like some things that were supposed to be ready are still not quite done, but over all things are coming at the Marina Pez Vela but are ready for the onslaught of people ready to fish Quepos Monday March 15 day one of the IFGA Offshore World Championships.

Quepos Fishing Report March 30

Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sportfishing couple of groups out fishing offshore, the Rayo De Sol and the Fastrak was going offshore for the morning and then a half-day In-shore with another group.

Rayo De Sol was on it as client reports a great fishing charter going 7 for 10 on Sailfish, what a different charter than yesterday was with a good steady bite. Fastrak ended with 2 for 2 on Sailfish as well on their half-day of offshore fishing and then headed back to switch baits and clients.

In-shore was good this morning with a strong bite and then just died, the boats In-shore fishing this morning good Snook bite as well as the Roosterfish was a good bite as well but this afternoon the fish tired and sleepy from the morning I guess. We managed to release a Roosterfish and a Snapper on the afternoon half-day In-shore on the Fastrak.

Quepos Fishing Report March 28

Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having clients fishing the Fastrak offshore as well as the Ray De Sol for a half-day In-shore fishing. Today was one of those charters where I'm not sure who's fishing report to post first because both are amazing, however the quadruple hook up takes the cake.

Fishing on the Fastrak Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos Father and his three sons and whenever there are children on the boat Mar1 Sportfishing hopes for lots of action to keep them busy, and when you do get that fish to the boat that's bigger than them you can't help but smile because they sure are.

Fastrak Fishing Report was went 7 for 14 on Sailfish including a Quadruple hook that released 3 of the 4 all three by the boys!!! as well as 3 for 4 Dorado that clients took for dinner. What an amazing Charter a day fishing that won't be forgotten soon I am sure by that family.

Rayo De Sol fishing report for Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos late departure as the client was flying in from San Jose on the first Sansa flight this morning so Mar1 Sportfishing got him from the airport in Quepos and took him right to the Rayo De Sol that was waiting bait ready and ready to fish..

The Rayo De Sol was also having a tough Charter offshore but did manage to hook 5 Sailfish but clients only managed to release 1 of them.

Quepos Fishing Report March 26

Fishing Quepos for Charter two of their fishing holiday here in Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing clients fishing the Fastrak for a day of In-shore fishing. It's been awhile since Mar1 Sportfishing having the Fastrak In-shore so it was going to be interesting to see if the crew could remember how to fish In-shore.. Well Mar1 Sport fishing clients did and client reports another great Charter of fishing Quepos on the Fastrak releasing two Roosterfish, as well as some Snapper, Jack Crevalle and needlefish. Rayo De Sol was out of a half-day offshore and the bite just wasn't there this morning as Mar1 Sport fishing clients managed to release 0 of 3 Sailfish that hooked up. The afternoon bite was better but missed it, this is sometimes why Mar1 Sportfishing doesn't recommend half-days offshore unless the bite is really hot.

Los Sueños fishing reports for good for a long distance trip and the total was 40 for 58 but traveled an undisclosed crazy amount of water.

Golfito Fishing report in for having them also heading way out going 50 for 65 on Sailfish, what crazy numbers on the long distance charters.

Quepos Fishing Report March 25

Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Fastrak headed offshore with a nice family of 5 and Mar1 Sportfishing wanted them all to get at least one, or two. At the end of the Charter the Fastrak ended with what Mar1 Sportfishing wanted going 5 for 8 sails 0 for 1 Marlin. There's that Marlin again the trend continues... Other reports from Quepos 2 for 3 on Sailfish.

Los Sueños fishing reports from a little slower than yesterday but still very good at 7 for 10 Sailfish released. One crew back after a three Charter fishing excursion went a three day total of 94 for 127 on Sailfish.... Now that's fishing!

Quepos Fishing Report March 24

Fishing Quepos offshore the bite was about the same as yesterday not realy good but not real bad either as most boats releasing 3-5 Sailfish for the Charter. In-shore fishing reports for great with lots of Snook, Snapper and Roosterfish so all of the In-shore anglers able to keep the rods bent having great days of fishing in Quepos

Quepos Fishing Report March 22

Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Fastrak fishinga full-day of offshore fishing out of Quepos. It was a little slower in Quepos but the crew of the Fastrak found fish as always and managed to release 4 of 7 Sailfish and 1 Dorado. Quepos Fishing Report March 21

Fishing Quepos for their last Charter this trip for this crew, and what a ton of fishing Mar1 Sport fishing clients did over their two week holiday here in Quepos / Manuel Antonio Costa Rica. Clients started off with a full-day of In-shore fishing on the Mirse Azul the day after arrival, then Mar1 Sport fishing clients followed that with the next two days of Offshore fishing on the Swordfish. Now if the three days weren't enough Mar1 Sport fishing clients rented one of the Tres Niñas boats for a week and fished everyday of it. And now after a few days off the whole family was onboard the Fastrak to send them off with a fantastic Charter of offshore fishing.

Fishing was full of action raising almost thirty Sailfish throughout the Charter, of that the crew managed to hook 8 Sailfish and Mar1 Sportfishing released 6 Sailfish out of the 8. I think that the highlight of the Charter though was Rudy and Harold getting a chance to swim with a beautiful Sailfish taking turns releasing it. As a matter of fact the fish was having so much fun swimming with the crew of the Fastrak it didn't seem like it was going to leave the boat. Another fantastic day of fishing on the Fastrak here in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Quepos Fishing Report March 20

Fishing Quepos In-shore Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Rayo de Sol looking for some In-shore species like Roosterfish, Snook, Snapper, Spanish Mackerel etc. What a great Charter client reports releasing 2 Roosterfish and a nice Snook on a half-day of In-shore fishing.

Quepos Fishing Report March 19

Fishing Quepos Offshore again Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Fastrak out looking for a day fishing like yesterday with a lot of action in the spread and double digit releases on Sailfish. Today however was a different Charter, there was still lots of Sailfish in the area butthe fish just weren't as interested as yesterday. The crew of the Fastrak having to work hard to get the hook ups and managed to get 8 on and the clients able to release 5 of the Sailfish that hooked for them.

Quepos Fishing Report March 18

Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos having the Fastrak and the Rayo de Sol heading offshore to look for some Sailfish, Marlin and Dorado. What a day of fishing both of them having, both great deal of action in the spread as the fish keeping the crews busy.

Fastrak ended the top boat for the day as Mar1 Sport fishing clients managed to release 10 of the 21 Sailfish that hooked on and seem probably 40 Sailfish in the spread throughout the day of fishing.

Rayo de Sol ended with a few less Sailfish in the spread but still managed to release 7 of the 12 Sailfish that hooked on and saw 25+ Sailfish in the spread. Looks like the bite is back as Fishing Quepos heats up again.

Quepos Fishing Report March 17

Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos couple boats fishing for us again the Fastrak and the Rayo de Sol, the Fastrak was headed offshore with some friends from home and the Rayo De Sol was In-shore fishing with the group that fished on the Big Eye yesterday.

Offshore fishing Quepos on the Fastrak with the bite looking great from yesterday Mar1 Sportfishing expecting nothing short of an amazing Charter for these two as Mar1 Sport fishing clients headed offshore to get some Sailfish and maybe a Marlin and a couple of Dorado for dinner. The fishing report at the end of the Charter was 5 for 8 on Sailfish, with some great pictures above as well as below the water line of some of these amazing fish.

In-shore fishing on Charter two of their fishing holiday the boys one light this morning as only two of the three up and ready to get fishing when I picked them up. The two that made it ready for a great day of fishing in the hands of the very experienced crew of the Rayo De Sol Mar1 Sport fishing clients off looking for Roosterfish, Snook and maybe a couple Snapper.

The fishing report from them at the end of the Charter was a little weird though, and I was getting a totally different feel of the day from everyone. Clients managed to release 3 Roosterfish, 2 Snook one in the 40 pound class, as well as 4 Catfish and a pile of Needlefish. In my opinion this was a really good day of fishing and I wasn't sure why there was some negative vibes as Mar1 Sportfishing left the marina.

Fishing is fishing not catching, and when I got to the bottom of the issue with the Charter it basically came down to species. Clients caught a pile of fish but from the sounds of it Mar1 Sport fishing clients very unimpressed when clients caught a fish that was not the species that the clients looking for. I am sure I can speak for everyone that has ever fished before that it would be great if you could use baits that would only catch certain species, and only that species of fish. But unfortunately nothing like this exists yet here in Quepos so when you feel a fish on you are really never quite certain what it may be until you get a look at the fish, sometimes it's not the species you are looking for and that's why you try again for that target species and that's all part of the great sport of fishing.

PS if anyone has a bait that will only catch a specific species and that species only please send us a few so Mar1 Sportfishing can try them out.

Quepos Fishing Report March 16

Fishing out of Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos clients on the Fastrak, Big Eye and the Rayo de Sol and did the bite gets hot for the crew on the Fastrak as it always seems too. Fastrak went 11 for 13 on Sailfish raising 27 and also got 2 Mahi for dinner.

The Rayo De Sol was on an In-shore trip and great Charter releasing 2 Rooster 4 jack, fishing was great Charter out with the crew on the Rayo de Sol

On the Big Eye Mar1 Sportfishing group that clear idea of how they wanted the Charter to go as well as where they wanted to go, after a quick meeting to get the Charter started with Captain Franklin it was time to head off fishing. First off to look for some Sailfish where the clients having luck the last time here and didn't have the same luck, Mar1 Sport fishing clients raised 5 Sailfish but the fish just weren't hungry. So then off to try some bottom fishing where the clients having luck last time and again well... Mar1 Sport fishing clients did manage to get 1 Snapper at the end of the Charter just as the sun was setting so Mar1 Sport fishing clients didn't get totally skunked.

Fishing Quepos changes from day to day and charter to charter our local crews fish and keep the action there for you, so you can trust that the crews will do the job. Today was one of those days where sometimes the fish aren't where the last time you here so let the Captain look after you, sit back and enjoy the fishing.

Final day of the Los Sueños Signature Billfish Tournament

Final day of the Los Sueños Signature Billfish Tournament and did Mar1 Sportfishing have a race going on for the top spot. At the end of the day Sea Fix managed to take top spot followed by Team Release Marine and Sea Angel.

Quepos Fishing Report March 10 2013

Fishing Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos few boats out that Mar1 Sportfishing have fishing reports from, the Mirse Azul was In-shore for a Full-day, the Swordfish was offshore and the Fastrak was headed off shore out of Los Sueños.

First off the clients on the Mirse Azul on Charter 2 of their three Charter fishing holiday the plan for was In-shore for Snapper and Roosterfish. Unfortunately the swell was a little big to get after the Snook but Mar1 Sport fishing clients did manage to get 4 nice Roosterfish, also a bunch of Jack Crevalle and Spanish Mackerel. Fastrak was heading out with only one client on board, that's a lot of boat for one guy and when Mar1 Sportfishing picked him up in the morning Mar1 Sportfishing was telling us how he has fished all over the world and has never caught a "big fish". This concerned me a little and knew the crew was going to have to work for this client, he having the right boat and crew to get him his first "big fish". Well at the end of the Charter my fears came true and Mar1 Sport fishing clients managed to get 1 Dorado, a very nice Dorado in the 60 pound range but went 0 for 3 on Sailfish... The first Charter this season that the Fastrak has been unable to get a Sailfish boat side. So the clients mission continues for a "big fish" and Mar1 Sportfishing wish him luck.

Quepos Fish Report January 20 2013

Fishing Charters Quepos had me fishing which is always fun, any day on the waters here in Quepos is great but the odd time I get the chance to be the angler is always a pleasure. We headed out with some friends out of Quepos on the Release 31' Bertram and to say Mar1 Sportfishing great Charter would be an understatement for sure.

Fishing in Quepos was again a great bite and Mar1 Sportfishing raised a total of 22 fish to the boat, of that 16 Sailfish and 1 Mahi Mahi took baits and gave us a chance to set the hook. Today however the crew was there to watch as Mar1 Sportfishing tried to get all the hook up with the clients doing the work and letting the crew have a nice Charter relaxing and just having fun with us now, now that's not to say that Johnny didn't set a few up for us but Mar1 Sportfishing made a valiant effort to be first on the rods when they went off.

Our totals for the Charter varied from person but as a team Mar1 Sportfishing managed to still release 8 of the 16 Mar1 Sportfishing shot at as well as getting one Dorado for dinner. Two of our friends had never been offshore fishing so Mar1 Sportfishing dragged them along to get an experience of fishing in Costa Rica that I'm sure Mar1 Sport fishing clients wouldn't have ever got if Mar1 Sportfishing didn't take them along. Over all a GREAT Charter with friends on the Release 31' Bertram

Other fishing report from for Quepos on the same line as ours everyone seemed to have a great Charter fishing and the reports read as, 91 for 1 Blue Marlin and 9 for 12 Sailfish, 6 for 8 Sailfish, 9 for 12 Sailfish and 0 for 1 on Marlin, 7 for 11 Sailfish and 2 Dorado.

Los Sueños fishing report for was strong as well as the Captains and Crews successful Signature Series Billfish tournament wrapped up yesterday but the fishing sure hasn't wrapped up in Los Sueños. The fishing reports read as 1 for 1 Blue Marlin and 18 for 22 on Sailfish, 11 for 18 on Sailfish and 0 for 2 on Marlin, 12 for 15 Sailfish, 7 for 12 on Sailfish.

Quepos Fish Report January 19 2013

Fishing Quepos on their 5th and last Charter of fishing Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos had clients out on the Mirce Azul for a half-day of inshore fishing looking for one of them seemed to be the ever elusive Roosterfish as he hadn't been able to quite get one to the boat yet. Well he wasn't able to cash in either but they did get a bunch of Spanish Mackerel for dinner that Mar1 Sportfishing took to the Rancho Leon just outside of Quepos.

Fishing totals for this group over their 5 Charter 14 day holiday in Quepos 3o Sailfish, 2 Mahi Mahi, 2 Roosterfish, 1 Jack Crevalle and 6 Spanish Mackerel, what a holiday.

Los Sueños Fishing report for was the final day of the Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series and man oh man did the tournament go off great. Fishing was so great that they beat records for fish being released for the 10 year history of the tournament, that in itself is a great accomplishment.

Winner of this year's leg one of the Los Sueños Signature Billfish series was Dragin Fly with an astounding total of 62 Sailfish releases and 1 Marlin release. Second place went to Rebel with 57 Sailfish releases and third place went to HT Hook with 52 Sailfish releases. Tournament totals 1406 Sailfish releases and 6 Marlin releases over the 3 day tournament. For only 38 boats fishing the Los Sueños Signature Billfish Tournament I would say that those record breaking totals a great indicator of how the fishing season has been for us here in Costa Rica.

Quepos Fish Report January 18 2013

Fishing Quepos as the tournament boats headed down from Los Sueños our fleet from Quepos was n the mix getting it done as the amazing bite here continues. Quepos Fish Report January 13 2013

Fishing Quepos for Charter two of the five Mar1 Sportfishing have planned for them the clients heading back offshore to see if they could out do their last Charter of fishing and when Mar1 Sportfishing got the report from them on their return it was beyond amazing. It went like this, the Charter started out a little slow with not much for action in the first 2 hours and then.....

Quepos Sailfish offered up a triple header that Mar1 Sport fishing clients landed all 3 Sailfish, then 2 double headers that they landed both with and then if that wasn't enough there was a Marlin and 9 other Sailfish releases for the Charter. The Charters totals 16 for 20 on Sailfish and 0 for 1 on Marlin, they did get a good fight out of the Marlin while it was on but it just wasn't their Charter to get the Marlin that Mar1 Sport fishing clients wanted, oh well they still have 1 more Charter of offshore fishing left so hopefully they get their Marlin to the boat.

Fishing Quepos as well was the Release and client reports a great Charter as well going 5 for 8 on Sailfish, one black fin Tuna and a Dorado for supper, other fishing reports for 6 for 8 Sailfish and 1 Marlin, what a day of fishing in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Quepos Fish Report January 11 2013

Fishing Quepos Mar1 Sport fishing Quepos had clients out on Charter 1 of their 2 week 5 Charter fishing holiday with Mar 1 Sport Fishing and to say they ready to fish was a gross understatement. This set of clients have fished all over the world so Mar1 Sportfishing knew that they going to be hard to impress but Mar1 Sportfishing up to the challenge and knew that Mar1 Sportfishing had them on the right boat to make fishing a Charter they would remember.

Fishing on the Big Eye Captain Franklin and first mate Jackson there was 3 generations on board looking for some first catches for all of them so let's see how they did. Sailfish was one fish that had been able to elude all 3 generations so far, however they all got their first Sailfish releases, also on the first catch ever was the Grandpa and the grandson with their first Dorado catches, what a Charter. It is always special when Mar1 Sportfishing get the little ones out fishing Quepos but when you get 3 generations on the boat it always makes it that much better.

Fishing Report for them with Captain Franklin on the Big Eye was 4 for 8 on Sailfish, as well as a couple of Dorado for supper back at the Vila. And let me tell you when Mar1 Sportfishing returned them it sure didn't take Grandma (who stayed back for some R and R) long to get that nicely filleted Dorado out of the bag and into the pan to set supper started for the fishermen. They have a day off Saturday but will be back offshore Sunday so see if they can add to the totals.

Los Sueños fishing report was again right up on par for the last little while with an amazing bite for anglers. The fishing reports Mar1 Sportfishing found read as 15 for 27 on Sailfish, 8 for 10 Sailfish and 1 for one on Blue Marlin, 8 for 8 on Sailfish, 4 for 7 on Sailfish and 0 for 1 on Blue Marlin. Another fantastic day fishing Los Sueños.

Quepos Fish Report January 10 2013

Fishing out of Quepos was the Fastrak and the Rayo de Sol and their fishing reports as good as yesterdays as the bite here in Quepos hold on. Fishing on the Fastrak the crew stayed busy and so did the anglers, with a lot of short strikes they fighting to get that hook dropped back in time to get the fish hooked up and as usual the crew on the Fastrak managed to put a great report on the board. Fastrak released 1 of 1 Blue Marlin, 8 for 12 Sailfish hooked out of the 20 plus Mar1 Sport fishing clients had up in the spread. The Rayo de Sol was also out and having the same issue with the short strikes but still managed to release 2 of 5 Sailfish and boated 3 Dorado for supper back at the hotel.

Quepos Fish Report January 5 2013

Fishing Quepos the fishing was a little slower for some but very good for others, Sailfish releases went from 1.... to 18 now if that's not a big variance of fish I don't know what is, Mar1 Sportfishing still aren't sure where the boats with the low catches went but Mar1 Sport fishing clients definitely zigged when they should have zagged.

Los Sueños fishing reports from a lot more consistent and amazing reports as they billfish bite here in Costa Rica continues to be great. The reports read as 21 - 31 on Sailfish, 20 - 43 on Sailfish what fishing have Mar1 Sportfishing had over the last few Charters.

Fishing Report from Quepos was a mixed bag of reports from good to fantastic depending on where they fishing it seems. The Sailfish release ranged from 3 to 12 and there still a lot of Mahi in the area for the taking and the anglers out fishing made short work of them.

Fishing report from Los Sueños had the Good Day Team out for some offshore fishing and did they live up to the Good Day Team name they released 1 of 2 Blue Marlin as well as 12 of 15 Sailfish and id if that wasn't enough they topped it off with 2 Dorado for supper.

Los Sueños fishing reports are still coming in strong with the great bite that Mar1 Sport fishing clients are used to 14-19 on Sailfish was one, 10-19 on Sailfish and 1 for 3 on Blue Marlin was another so anglers definitely keeping busy fishing out of Los Sueños.

Quepos Fish Report January 2 2013

Fishing Charter two of their fishing holiday here in Quepos Mar1 Sportfishing had them out for a three quarter day of inshore fishing and the children got to join them fishing and Mar1 Sportfishing all know how much fun watching the little ones catching fish is.

Reports are in and the top boat of the three was Captain Franklin on the Big Eye releasing 6 Rooster fish, as well as 4 Jack Crevalle and a few other little fish for the kids. Second place was the Blue Pearl 2 releasing a nice Rooster fish and a needlefish this report is definitely not what it should be as client reports 6 other Rooster fish on but couldn't quite get them close enough for releases so Mar1 Sport fishing clients ended up in second place . Third place was Captain Oscar on the Costa Brava who Mar1 Sportfishing still aren't sure why but his report was 2 for 4 on Sailfish, quite a strange report for a three quarter day of inshore fishing isn't it...

Offshore Quepos fishing reports had the Rayo De Sol at the top of the board releasing 10 of 15 Sailfish that Mar1 Sport fishing clients had up in the spread, the rest of the fleet wasn't far behind those great numbers as well as there some Dorado's sprinkled into the mix if Quepos Reports as well.
